@styfle: I wouldn't dare place my dad in front of a linux distro, just the differnt colour taskbar and windows would mess him up.

@fredjegalle: Specs? If its seriously old, I'd by a used, but newer computer. If it takes as long as you say, your dad will get pissed at it all the time.

Using a flash drive as RAM will kill it extremely quickly. I know that it is said to use an extra drive lying around, but most USB flash drives have a limited number of writes, usually they will last a long time in ordinary situations, but when used as a system cache, which handles thousands of writes in a day, you'll

One should never eat wild mushrooms except when you are in a survival situation, even then its risky. There are many kinds of mushrooms that look very similar, and some identical to the untrained eye. You should never judge mushrooms safe to eat based on a book guide, at the very least an experienced professional

@cmdtacos: or Improve wireless strength by moving the router closer to you!

Captain Obvious to the rescue!

@GrabbinPeelz: Yeah mac users usually get pretty superior. I don't have a problem with macs (I wouldn't use one, too much glitter, hardware upgrades are much more expensive, and mac versions of hardware often are released long after pc versions, and the lack of compatibility with some of my favourite games) I have a

@greeze: I agree that saying viruses isn't wrong in anyway, and I am definetly not trying to sound superior, that's just not what I do (at least I try not to, I hate people that think they're superior to everyone else).

@CrownedWombat: That's kind of a pathetic reason to not use a good, completely free program. I don't even pay attention to the icons for programs like this because most of the time when they are running I'm not there, so I can't even see the icon (who watches video encode? Long and boring)

@BK216: I totally agree, almost everything google touches turns to gold, now on the other hand we have symantec, and the infamous case of Partition Magic and numerous other unfortunate software suites.

The concept that macs are more secure is preposterous, as this articles say's, the only reason macs have less virii (plural for virus) is because less people use them than PC's. Windows has a 91% market share (clients, not servers, most servers use linux). A virus coder logically would write it for a popular system,

I just use my dropbox account, and save important files (i.e maps I've made in Valve's level editor, Hammer) to the dropbox folder, since everything else I have is technically backed up already (games bought off steam)

@tylerf: Technically you do inevitably use web mail, you're just using your isp's. If what you mean is using an email client (i.e Outlook, Thunderbird), you can configure Gmail to work with it, pretty easily.

What?! I swear there was a post just like this (sleeping on a plane) only a week or two ago! What is lifehacker coming, dupe posting every few weeks. I'd swear we get a "choose your favourite vpn client" every week.

@styfle: Oh, that sucks, though I don't see how much overhead an inactive tool bar could cause.

@dan: I understand what you're saying now, I don't know how I missed it. Of course the pics would look bad, since the resolution of the photo taken of the presentation appears to be lower than the resolution of the showcase photos, and the exposures to high. DOH!

@stever: Agree, and for different people, the amount of strain their eye's can take varies too. I think most people (including me) could use an iTouch to read without problems, but the slight eyestrain on top of the relatively small screen kind of makes it to much of a job for me.

VOTE: eBay

@Jason Fitzpatrick: I don't think I'd enjoy sitting at a beach with people staring at me (being a guy wearing nylons). I'm sure crossdressers would be fine with this, but since a majority of the male population doesn't crossdress, I don't many of us would be comfortable wearing such clothing. Either way, I have
