No game is beyond saving. I still have egg on my face for saying that Final Fantasy XIV was beyond saving after its rocky launch, predicted it would go free-to-play, and then slowly fade into indifference and shame as Square Enix moved on.

Dang, I forgot how good that was. I’d kill for a full movie with this crew.
Lol. That’s totally what I did too. He ultimately picked one of my first pitches.
I had a boss I did designs for. I did over 300 designs for him once for on single project and the only feedback I ever got was “not what I’m looking for”, “I’ll know it when I see it”, and “It has to be familiar” and “it has to be original”.
Here’s the thing: Blizzard isn’t a single entity. Neither is the Gawker sites.
1. Companies do things in their best interest for their own profit, all the time. Get over it.
Nobody is hysterical, and they’ve listened to thousands of bits of feedback over the years. Overwatch as it stands would not exist without that feedback. They’ve made countless alterations to characters, poses, costumes, and other content from player response and critique and they’ve continued to do so long before…
Easy answer there: I don’t think I’m entitled to it.
This isn’t “logic”. As the developers said themselves, this isn’t about checking a box on a spreadsheet. As an ethnic minority, I like to play as countless other characters and races and genders outside of my own. Games are great at this and letting you spend an hour in someone else’s shoes. Which is why, again, it’s…
You’re thoroughly missing the point. It isn’t that we should ignore the origins and ethnicity of a character. Quite the opposite. More that you shouldn’t tamper with a character or story simply because of those origins or ethnicities. Especially since doing so can serve to cheapen them.
I reject this assertion wholesale.
I legit remember hear a few odd voices saying that Mortal Kombat 11 was going overboard with TWO playable black women in its roster and I rolled my eyes so hard, as if just one token minority character is the rule. I would be quite thrilled to have multiple black female heroes in Ovewatch. They’ve teased at least two…
Bold of you to assume we’re offended. Many of us are thrilled we’re getting a black female hero. We’re not so much criticizing their efforts at diversity (which are some of the best in the business), but rather in regards to which characters they’ve chosen to prioritize (as there have been over 31 characters to date,…
While valid, until there is equality and respect for all races, genders, and backgrounds, it never will be good enough.
As someone whose skin color dictates a great deal of my social interactions and treatment by others, I think both are extremely important. We like to think that a good character is good, regardless of color or ethnicity. We like to say good writing is color blind.
Ultimately, despite my criticisms, Overwatch IS one of the most diverse games ever crafted and the devs should be proud of their efforts. I want to make it clear that most people are disappointed - not angry or hateful, and that Blizzard’s dev team is wise enough to understand feedback doesn’t mean accusations of…
