And that’s really it. It’s the difference between “the mimic caught me off guard, killed me, and sent me all the way back to the beginning, I should learn from this” and “the mimic did a lot of damage to me that I had to heal through but I can keep going forward and learn from this”. It’s less about the “difficulty”

Just to chime in, I have modded the games. Part of the reason I’m in support of “easy mode” in these games is I created it myself and, you know, it’s pretty awesome.

Neither are most ports of video games, including ones like Dark Souls Remastered (which tweaked many details of the original). The point remains, “easier” versions were in demand and then created and sold.

They are designed with standard controllers, yes... but it’s the same reason many PC players like mouse and keyboard support. When a PC game doesn’t include both options, it can also affect the difficulty of an experience. Mass Effect on PC, for instance, only launched with keyboard and mouse support. Fans had to mod

And just add in... Silent Hill 2 had both enemy AND puzzle difficulty options. I liked having multiple options for different parts of the game.

Already happened. The creators of the original Souls games have already had their ports modified and ported to new systems by other people and studios. The new Dark Souls remastered version alters the original art and effects and adds several QoL improvements to the game that weren’t put there by the original

There is a difference between “learning what to do” and “having the dexterity to actually DO it”. Difficulty is not the SAME for every player.

Don’t confuse “how we make the art” versus “how we consume the art”.

No everyone experiences DIFFICULTY the same way, though. What’s easy for you is incredibly difficult for someone else, ESPECIALLY for gamers with disabilities.

Watching and playing are, of course, still two separate things.

My personal experience with modding Dark Souls 1 to be “easier” and experiencing Sen’s Fortress is that it was fine.

Just to play devil’s advocate, there ARE easier versions of War & Peace and Ulysses. I mean, the author’s “original intent” was for you to read them in their native language; translating them into English makes them substantially easier for you to read them. And beyond that, there have been re-translations over the

I think a better analogy is they made the nachos, but they gave you nothing but a sharp knife to eat it with. Nothing wrong with asking for a fork. HOW you consume the nachos is just as important as the ingredients they’re composed of.

To pipe in, I modded my Dark Souls save to be an “easy mode”.

I committed a blasphemous sin with Dark Souls...

I’ll just say that as someone who mains a female Roegadyn, I can’t imagine playing through the game without having female Roegadyns (or male Miqo’te) represented or as an option. I was thrilled they corrected that oversight... and I hope we can get some male Viera and female Hrothgar in here.

According to the people who worked on this, NONE of it was made with school funding. Their funding was actually cut and they had to resort to recyclable materials on their own to make it happen.

Anthem isn’t a good game. It deserves to be criticized.

To be fair, several people did try to restart their systems and the systems proved unresponsive, even after unplugging and plugging it back in. The solution is literally to try and boot it back up in “safe mode” which isn’t something most players have ever had to do.

Then give Warframe a playthrough. It’s free too.
