There are several I know of that are not part of the shared branching network but I am always able to find somewhere withing 15-20min from me that will work. And yes there are a lot that will reimburse ATM fees but there are also a lot of Co-Op Atms that do not charge fees too.

I agree that banks can work as well but the benefit of a credit union is that you are making an investment in your own financial success. Credit unions as this article stated are more likely to pass their success back to members. Whereas banks have no incentive to passing anything back to their customers.
