except this isnt genius level work. he probably followed the simple instructions available from multiple places on the web.

Except fusors aren’t just buildable by geniuses. Its actually quite ‘easy’ to build a fusor, there are even plans online. It doesn’t take an in depth understanding of math or physics to build one of these.

kettleman city is a saad saad place to live in CA. Affordable? sure. Don’t go there.

Well if you’ve ever played KSP, you know that you really need a few thousand orbiting debris before your beautiful space station becomes in danger.

That makes sense actually. I would add though that there is nothing that guarantees you’ll find someone with the right appetite. This is not supposed to dampen your spritits, but a good reality check so you don’t feel bitter and angry towards existence.

Hm, I find it strange she was only able to touch on the online dating “get dates” strategy. As a reluctant millenial, I really don’t see any viable way to actively cultivate that side of life other than online dating. I wonder if its something thats gonna eventually become so normal that it will replace ??? as the

One thing I should press is that results which are inconclusive or negative are just as worthy of being published as positive results.

This area probably has some interesting geomorphological history. Stream capture maybe?

This really illustrates the *ahem* hole inherent in the logic of deregulating markets.

so is there an optimum speed for ground penetration?

Yes there are plenty of places you can do this. I prefer to go to National Forests and BLM land where I know theres no sensitive ecosystem stuff to worry about. Its hard work to be sure, and I limit myself to hand tools of course, but its very rewarding.

I feel like i should do an AMA for one of you guys as I am a pretty active weekend prospector.

We really need to see a video of this.

I have an idea for a testable hypothesis for this: If true, it would also warm up the cores of other planets with a similar cycle. Gas Giants won’t leave traces behind from 30 MYA, but the surfaces of Venus and Mars, and perhaps various moons, may provide evidence of a 30 MY cycle. What do mars geologists say?

Ok I'll give you that, but arguably because shiprock is so old, most of the escaping methane should be from fossil fuel operations, as the heat is long gone and sufficient time has passed for the meteoric-sourced methane to dissipate.

Maybe we shouldn’t be farming in a desert?

Why didn't gold become a royally/spiritually revered decorating substance in North America despite ample evidence of trade between the regions?

Methane does not come in large quantities from Earth Volcanos because at the temperatures/pressures experienced around magma, solid carbon is way more stable to form. Also Shiprock is not a super-volcano; there's no caldera structures in the immediate vicinity, and its pretty old (27 MYA, definitely extinct, no heat).

as a recent Physics & ESS graduate.. fuck man.

I have a 300 million year old limestone rock. Does that count?
