I can't imagine authors have the time (or interest) in even skimming all the comments to the articles they write - forget about reading them and following up on questions about accuracy (it's far easier to not review or review

You'd think that, but I have been banned for pointing out glaring factual issues with articles by former editors. Not mentioning any names but some folks didn't like to have their articles picked apart.

The comments sort of bridge between fact checking and article claims. It's just a bridge that all the trolls hid under.
