Yeah, it got lost in the noise of daily screaming. IMO, it’s a big deal as I can see a role for (strong) plug-in hybrids for those who can’t or won’t go full electric. Options and choice are a good thing.

PHEVs are part of the plan. California tweaked its regulations in August 2022 with its “Advanced Clean Cars II” policy. This change encourages more (strong) PHEVs starting with model year 2026, two short years away.

PHEVs already have the same $7500 incentive as BEVs. Why aren’t they as popular? Hard to say for sure. My guesses:

A split-fuel market isn’t a bad thing. It gives more flexibility.

The decision makers are easily impressed by “state of the art” solutions and have no concern about spending gobs of taxpayer money. They are eager to make deals. I have watched cities spend money again and again for the same promises sold to them

When applying for a car loan on their website, at the bottom of the form instead of a SEND button it just says APPROVE.

If you have a history of paying their bills on time they will rebuy you no matter your credit.

Yeah, but there’s no data monitoring then, and you’re gonna want that data monitoring. It really helps improve the value of your vehicle and will maximize its life and value.
