No; I think that trucks should be able to be configured to roll coal if the owner wants, as long as they have a certification that the engine is set up to exhaust only into the cab. Then they can roll all the coal they want.

Deep thought: Now that everyone seems to drive crossovers, I wonder if there’s really much need for a small, entry-level pickup. It sounds appealing for some applications, but practically speaking most (truly) small pickups aren’t doing much that a wagon, CUV, or van can’t do.

No, a thousand times no. Not all things have to have manual transmissions. There is a dump truck near me with a manual transmission for sale. As a wild guess, I would say it drives like an old dump truck even with that transmission.
Not everything needs 300hp. My car has less than 300 hp and can more than scoot when I get on it. My wife’s car has ~150hp and rarely do I think it needs any more than that.
I don’t know how to tell you this, but the people of Asheville don’t do anything quickly. Adding more power won’t enhance their life. If you’re in a hurry to get from your micro-brewery job to hang with your friends at the drum circle, you’re missing the point.
