NEEEEEEEEERRRDDDDDD!!!
It's a numbers game really. Movies stand to make a lot more money on their own, just in ticket sales and blue ray sales, but also direct marketing that features Fox's versions of the characters. It's not like FF is Marvel's biggest seller to begin with, they're only making money off of two titles, and the merchandise…
So you were the 'kind one' that those stickers were preaching to.
Now now, we don't presume to expect the Avatar generation to.. you know, watch old films that are good.
Cameron has made a lot of really great, memorable movies, he just kind of seems to have George Lucas'd the shark, so to speak.
That's why I said I wonder where the story problems come from. Into Darkness had things I liked, but the story wasn't really one of them, some great scenes and acting and all that but the story wasn't super strong. Bad Robot in general has been hit or miss, but i was speaking of things JJ has directly been involved…
I think what baffles me about Abrams is that I really like some of his work, Super 8 and Cloverfield namely, but most of his other stuff has so many big story problems that I wonder where they come from. I really liked Abrams work for a while, looked forward to his new stuff, but his recent films have been really…
eh, I guess I don't know that emoting is the right word. Like I mentioned, muppet yoda was very effective, especially all that training stuff and his death, he felt like a real character and his motions and body language was lifelike. But the face, it's always the biggest sufferer of practical effects and prosthetic.…
The prequels failed on so many grounds that bad cg wasn't it's biggest fault, it's just an easy target. The originals did so many things right that unconvincing practical effects are easily accepted, and you can't deny the impact of CG Ceaser from Planet of the Apes is so much stronger than that of muppet Yoda. You'd…
What do you recall about the creative development? I thought it was a fantastic movie, which is to the contrary of Abram's usual story work. I know Abrams wrote and directed Super 8 with Spielberg's films in mind, directly attempting to recreate the feel of his earlier work. He got in touch with Spielberg who liked it…
mkay, well I'm not looking to make a case defending Avatar. It's not a good movie, but it was wildly successful, which is why I included it. My other examples still stand.
the first rule about fight club..
I really liked Oberyn, but with his vendetta against the Lannisters I knew his time was gonna be short. Maybe not this short though. I was more upset with how his losing was gonna affect Tyrion's fate. That and the whole head crushing bit.. Especially since he had that giant fucker down and his own passion for revenge…
And that's my number one argument against the 'it's been in the books for years if you'd bother to read it' shit. You certainly can appreciate reading a good story, but so much of this stuff is highly visual, like most fantasy.
I kept thinking of it as an allegory for his father with the way that he seeks to conquer everything and everyone, even his children. Westeros is like a bunch of beetles to Tywin. Since the show has been pretty solid with it's subtle messages, especially regarding Tywin (skinning the dear, the deleted fishing scene),…
You know, I was really questioning adding Avatar to that one because once I typed 'no Avatar' I kind of felt a little better inside. But it was pretty immersive my first watch through, regardless of it's many other issues, it did that at least.
Did kinja misdirect your post? Was that meant for someone else really? Cause it sounds like we agree here..
Which is kind of what it's sounds like is gonna happen for Star Wars, so more to my point. I think that's the best way to use CG. Location scouting will always be more effective than green screen.
It didn't really look fake until they mixed in the live action stuff with the cg stuff, so I'll give you that. The end when the big blue chick is holding the small crippled guy was pretty awkward feeling. But the full on Avatar, Pandora, robot fighting scenes were immerse regardless because they were entirely…
In the comics Rick got more interesting after Lori died. In the show.. not so much. As much as everyone loved the repeated adventures of Crazy Rick and Ghost Lori. Maggie is a strong character though, I like the actress who plays her, Glenn just hasn't been doing it for me, when they'd cut back to him this last season…
