This is biology, not physics, but aliens are unlikely to look anything like us, and it would be far more likely that we could breed with any animal on Earth than an alien. But who wants to think about that?

I think the Original Trek series and all the Star Wars movies used a great deal of imagination. My point was that Abrams did not. His team created nothing new, except maybe Red Matter, a concept so idiotic it would be more at home in a sci fi parody.
