Never learn a skill that you think is beneath your social standing.
Outside of the bigger cities in Oregon parents have told their kids, “If you don’t study, you’ll be pumping gas for the rest of your life.” Generation after generation. The bigger cities and college towns are a bit more cosmopolitan.
In answer to the original question, you don’t get homelessness until you have cities. You don’t get cities, unless you have many enterprises that need to move goods. It’ll be a good 75 years from the time that the third space based mining and refinement enterprise is established.
You need cheap labor to create…
It could be tax supported, and “for profit”, and still act in the public interest. Non-profit is preferable, of course.
Corporations are obligated by law to act in the interest of their shareholders. Regulation is the only way you get a corporation to act in the public interest, because they have no choice and therefore don’t act in bad faith to their shareholders.
Tacoma and other cities, have municipal broadband. If an ISP wants to use their municipal fiber network, they have to abide by their rules. So in their case, socialism works.
Regulation makes socialism a lot less necessary. Everywhere that we see regulation being eliminated, the case for socialism looks a whole lot…
Cars with 200 hp don’t have much in the way of torque steer.
And I think the head gasket issue is on the 350hp Focus RS.
The mockingbirds in Mar Vista, CA, south of the Santa Monica airport, had a medley of tech sounds that they built up over 25 years. They had a mix of old Viper car alarms handed down from generation to generation, and in the years just before we moved, they had quite the repertoire of cell phone rings. In the spring,…
The main reason the RS has AWD is torque steer. Because other than having less horsepower, there are no good tricks that work well to eliminate it, even the pseudo double A-Arm systems like Revoknuckle. And if there’s parasitic drag, it starts with 350 hp, so BFD. Weight, you have a better case.
Parasitic drag is a…
Not “basically everywhere in the United States.” Every state. In California, for example, that means “just the mountains.” Where the vast majority of the state does NOT live. That’s roughly 12 percent of the US population right there.
Not that it matters that much. Lots of Subarus in Los Angeles. AWD is nice to have…
The only cars Harris really likes to drive are Porsches. And he’s pretty condescending about everything else.
He hates the Focus RS largely because it borders on real sports car performance and handling. And it’s too un-Porsche like in that category. It doesn’t fit his “fun toy” categorization of hot hatches either.
At…
I’ve used asm.transitdocs.com, and they are not accurate on speed, location and time. They’re close, most of the time. But they could have reported 81.1 mph just before the crash, and the info could have been 5 to 15 minutes old and the location off by 2 or more miles.
When we took the old Pt Defiance route this new…
There where trains cars on their sides, and on their roof, when you see the total accident from drone footage, and see a whole scene hidden by that bridge completely missed in the early reports from the south facing freeway.
In your map, the train was traveling right to left. The pictures from the scene are confusing because an engine was PUSHING the train from the back. Stopped the three remaining cars and the engine look like it is going north when it was actually traveling south.
Truth.
I was reading a Yelp review of a restaurant in Tacoma someone from Seattle liked, and in the review they said something like “who knew you could find a great restaurant in far south-Seattle.”
I’m honestly surprised the national media even mentions Tacoma. Even people in Seattle don’t seem to acknowledge Tacoma’s existence, and the rest of the country seems to think Seattle is Washington’s ONLY city.
JBLM is escorting people through the base to get around the problem. People are taking 16 west in Tacoma to 3 to 101 through Olympia, and they are taking the ferries as well to use that route.
The derailment occurred in one of the worst areas possible, with the fewest alternative routes.
I wish people would stop calling this “the richest nation on the planet.” This is the nation with the largest number of the richest rich-people on the planet, and the wealth is all theirs. And those rich people have made it abundantly clear that they don’t want their money being spent for the public good.
There’s a lot of speculation and not enough facts. I live in the Tacoma area, and the coverage of this incident has been non-stop since around 8am.
The tracks were tested and inspected in recent weeks though. Operator error is the largest speculation, based on reports of the top speed being maintained up to the turn…
It’s not a flying car if you have to go to an airport to take off. A flying car has to be VTOL. Most likely, we’ll see real quadcopter versions of such vehicles in the next decade.
We’ve seen precision control of quadcopters in groups by computer, and that’s what an air traffic control system for those would look…
