I’m going to write a YA dystopian novel where the people are respectful with each other, tolerant of differences, and leadership is earned through merit instead of popularity. Everyone is going to freak out when my book becomes true.

The DNC needs to be retooled to encourage competition from the bottom up, closer to a farm system, that can build politicians who have the policy and the charisma to impassion the party base.
I guess that this is a sobering reminder of why politicians lie so much. Most of the time there’s nothing to be gained from telling the truth, and sometimes to help people you need to lie to their face and face the backlash later. By then it won’t matter because by then you’ll already be in office.
Look on the bright side, we abandoned meritocracy a long time ago.

I think part of the appeal is that this is sort of “official rule 34".

You know, from an alt-righter’s perspective they would see themselves as being Indy and see the guy with the Nazi patch as being the liberal media (or whatever other group they don’t like).
You could make the argument that it never flipped at all, and that it was just hidden in plain sight because no one ever gave it attention or bothered to make the distinction.
I think there’s two different faiths at play here.
