Still waiting to meet someone who talks like this and has actually served in the military,
Still waiting to meet someone who talks like this and has actually served in the military,
Still waiting to meet someone who talks like this and has actually served in the military, police, fire protection, medical industry, general non-profit or the fucking humane society.
Patriotism is holding your country accountable when it does wrong, not screaming to silence others who dare question it. That’s just plain ol’ nationalism and the Russians and Chinese have it in spades as well (we just mock them for it while ignoring our own). Chanting ‘USA’ to drown out unfavorable opinions and…
He absolutely could and should do all of things you’re suggesting - but look at the massive and ridiculous reaction he’s gotten with one small act. This is actually an effective protest, it’s gotten people talking, it’s made them mad and it’s making them uncomfortable.
Nope. This is dumb. Marginalized peoples like Kaepernick and Rapinoe earn the change that’s necessary in this country by virtue of being human beings. Get the fuck out of here with this corny bullshit.
This is such a strange, uniquely American idea. It’s not The Military Anthem. It’s not The Troops Anthem. It’s the National Anthem. It’s for all of the people. It is not profession-specific.
It’s too bad that she won’t stand for the people who have died for her so she has the right to wave a rainbow flag. The most beautiful part of it all is that we also have the freedom to leave.
So what about the guy in the bathroom taking a 2 chapter shit. Is he disrespecting the flag. What about the girl serving beer and fries in the concourse. Is she disrespecting the flag? The camera man on the sidelines? The lady sitting breast feeding her baby?
Why? We have evidence of pervasive discrimination against some of this country’s citizens, people who in theory should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else, but don’t according to a huge raft of solid statistical evidence.
It’s too bad you hate America and our freedom to protest. Perhaps you would be more comfortable in Russia?
The troops do not own the anthem.
I’m pretty sure the people who died for our freedoms didn’t do it so that this country would become a place where you have to show dogmatic loyalty to symbols as if we lived in a dictatorship, saluting “Dear Leader” and bowing down lest we be marked a traitor. Let’s save that forced patriotic bullshit for North Korea.
Lol, who describes themselves as “a foremost civil rights activist”? Are you the ghost of Martin Luther King or Wangarri Maathai? More likely the doucgebag dreadlocked white dude who talks about being in an Occupy Wall St. drum circle like he served in ‘Nam.
We also have the freedom to kneel if we want to when we hear the anthem. Or turn our backs. Or dance a jig. Those people died for her freedom to do that too.
So you want professional sports players to take flags onto the field and burn them during the anthem?
Well, I can’t approve of this sort of thing.
I'm all for the protest but they should leave their guns at home.
Yeah...... I feel like this is really not ok. Maybe planting a yard sign or something, but *armed* protestors? Adding guns to any emotionally charged gathering is a recipe for disaster. I just hope that he slinks off with his tail between his legs and no one gets shot.
On one hand this quasi-mob justice makes me pretty uncomfortable (what if next time it is directed at someone far less worthy of public hatred). Then again, the legal system failed to deliver anything close to justice in this case, and I hope his crime haunts this piece of shit for the rest of his life. Thinking of…
