Between this and the story about the renter with a torture/murder den in her basement, Jez is awful cheery today.

I agree. It makes me want to cry imagining just how much she must have been missing her mother, and the fact that obviously she had no one else in her life to care about her.

I used to work in adult protective services and had a client with schizophrenia whose sister died in the apartment they shared. She stayed with the body for two weeks. Police were called because of the odor, since it was August. She did the same thing- propping the body up at the table, wore her clothes etc.

Not all cohabiting elderly mother-daughter pairs? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

i am empathizing like, hugely with this woman, and this article actually scared me with how much i can sympathize

I was extremely attached to my mother. I promise that you will be okay if/when you lose your mother. It might not be the kind of okay that you had in mind, but you will be okay. Eventually.

I've heard (from my detective uncle, so that's my only source) that bodies that remain in air conditioned environments are not too bad. The ones left outdoors or in locked cars, though? He said that is a smell that just sticks to goddamn everything.

this is my worst nightmare for myself. I tell my mother all the time this is how it's gonna turn out for me and that I will be talking to her corpse every day for years after she's gone bc my denial issues will be bad enough to create a separate reality if I haven't already. I have a self-diagnosed severe attachment

That was pretty much my reaction, too, and I also found myself dwelling on the sense of disenfranchisement she must have been living with, something that is so common amongst the mentally-ill these days. Even in big urban areas, they often feel cut off from society.

1) air conditioning/climate controls delay decomp.

That's a hell of a good question. I miss my rent payment by a WEEK and someone is banging on my door. And NO WAY am I keeping my job smelling of corpse (not to mention even being a person who would possibly smell of corpse).

Now playing

Nothing compares with what happened to Joyce Vincent.

I always wonder how people like this manage to pay their rent.

I don't understand the "no one smelled anything suspicious" aspect of this. Even if there weren't a decomposing corpse, there's still an apartment filled with garbage hoard. How bad does that building smell that rotting corpse/mountains of garbage smell doesn't arouse any suspicion??

As much as this story makes me cringe, I am deeply saddened at how lonely that woman must have felt that she needed to keep her mother's corpse to keep her company. She must have missed her so much.

Plus, she apparently just bought the drugs for $100. That's a profit of exactly $0. She's definitely not too bright.

Ah, so you found some anecdotal evidence that some growers use pesticides. I said "most indoor growers"... The articles you linked to are referring to marijuana acquired from dispensaries. Most dispensaries get their stock from outdoor farms, since smaller indoor growers usually can't provide the quantities required

Fourth Mistake: Bypassing the Saran Wrap for some foil. She's never seen Locked Up Abroad? Heck, she's never used paper tampon tampon applicators? #NoThanks

Was she arrested mid haircut?
