2011 Subaru ej25 engine in stock form are known to have head gasket issues. Actually it stems from 2006 onwards. Don't know why though. My 06 legacy gt has been rock solid.

Well tuned sierra cossie or rs500 can keep up with the e36. Nothing for the e46 generation. First generation focus rs? Or second generation? Advantage is awd and really heritage.
if I recall correctly, ford Europe had the Sierra Cosworth and rs500 which were both viable m3 competition but with 4 cyl Turbos.
