Being pro-sunlight, exercise, real food, and vitamins isn’t incompatible with being pro-vaccine.

“Real food and vitamins”
Candace Cameron Bure is worse than her brother Kirk. They share the same appalling beliefs, but she wraps hers in smiles and doublespeak.
So her letter that she posted in a private Facebook group is her public white savior action even though it has no racial dynamic, because you can make up a different narrative around it that does have a racial dynamic? That’s what you’re going with?
Yeah I’ve been googling like crazy and a lot of pieces seem to be from people identifying with Larson. Way fewer willing to own up to identifying with the needy weirdo who had no idea so many people were laughing at her behind her back.
Just to add - the Blood Cross asks you to post on IG after you donate (and will offer to take photos of you) to help reduce the shortage of blood right now. But yes, let’s tear down everyone who does so as having a ‘savior complex.’
Eh, I gotta say, and I only know the bones of this story because I hit the paywall, but I think that any defense of Sonya is kind of telling - like it says something about the person defending her. You’re defending a mean girl.
The Facebook group sounds absolutely bonkers, but did people not realize they could just... leave or mute the group? Or just tell her they limit their social media time or something?
I read the piece that you linked that explained the backstory of your essay here. This stood out:
I agree that all of this body-focus stuff shouldn’t be an issue. On the other hand, I do not think Adele is being honest about how she dropped the weight. You cannot, CANNOT, lose 100 pounds without drastically changing your diet. Exercise is great for getting in shape, building muscle, etc. Wonderful for your health. …
this really hit me as well. Dorland sounded like...a lot. But what happened to her (a group of people, whom she thought were her friends and peers, mocking her for years behind her back) feels like everyone’s worst nightmare.
Thank you for this viewpoint! I read the piece and found myself comparing Dorland to the “Dorlands” I’ve known...who humblebrag things at seemingly strange times or don’t seem to understand that “1-2-3 back to me” gets old quick (examples from the NYTs piece that made me think of people I specifically knew, not so…
So what is the public white savior-ey thing she’s done, if not the kidney donation?
Dorland made an undirected kidney donation, how is that white savior-ey?
I wonder why she didn’t want her to read the story?
Larson published the story with Dorland’s letter pretty much verbatim as an audiobook.
Uh, Sonya Larson herself wrote in multiple texts to friends that she took Dawn’s letter to the recipient of the kidney transplant, verbatim, to put in her story.
I’ve spent a lifetime seeing close friends walk away without a word, leaving me wondering why. I’ve taken autism spectrum tests; the results always come back negative, but something is going on there. I feel like there must be social signals that I don’t hear, like a dog whistle inaudible to human beings.
The story fell loudly for so many reasons.
Fitness culture is the same garbage as diet culture.
