Lots of (presumably) non-Jewish people getting pretty defensive in these comments. Try taking a breath and reading / listening to what Sarah Silverman is saying instead of giving in to kneejerk reactions.

My first reaction was grumpiness; I’m Jewish, but my mother converted prior to my birth. So I’m always a bit touchy when there’s a discussion about Jewishness as a flat-line identity; it’s hard to feel “Jewish enough” in a lot of communities.

But I looked a bit deeper to see what Sarah meant and actually, yeah. It is

Here are some more recent examples:

This was kind of what she said, but I would encourage people to seek out the original for better context:

There is definitely merit to what Sarah Silverman is saying. And as a Jewish woman who runs in circles with other Jewish women, we’ve all been talking about it non-stop since the video went up yesterday.

UM, is it wholly not understandable that jews be sick of motherfucking gentiles? the same way POC are sick of motherfucking white people? you HAVE heard of the holocaust, i assume.

Most allegations?

Silverman shouldn’t hold her breath. Antisemitism seems to be the one form of oppression that the woke faction handwaves away, barring some sort of Charlottesville-type display.

My initial reactions to this topic going round was an eyeroll and skepticism, but digging into a bit...I’d say there’s definite “taste” in the casting that comes from cultural (and global norms) of beauty and approachability. Something like colorism with how “ethnic” people can look. As an Asian male, there’s no

The recently released (excellent) book ‘Jews Don’t Count’ by David Baddiel is relevant to your comment, and well worth a read.

I really want to be snarky here... but is this actually a fair point? There are historical examples of Jews being played by non-Jews in offensive ways. Shylock in Merchant of Venice comes to mind. The Jewish people have clearly suffered and been marginalized historically, and continue to be in some places. I’m not

Except that the sexism, misogyny and elitism (most especially the last one) are exactly the point...

But enough about Clarence Thomas.  Boom!  ;-)

Campus authorities will claim they had no evidence of secret frats on campus after something terrible happens. This ruse will fall apart when they are reminded about the viral video of a future Supreme Court justice streaking through campus with Greek letters written on his ass cheeks.

The entire Greek system’s time has come and gone. Maybe one time they served some purpose other than propping up a decaying system that advantaged some at the expense of others. However, it’s pretty obvious that whatever dubious utility they once served is outweighed by the negative impacts, such as sexism, misogyny,

Also...

Getting rid of the Greek system would be the first step in what would probably be a very long road. Once you shut down the official system, houses, etc., what you’re going to end up with is a series of, what will amount to, private social clubs—many of which will attempt to operate as “secret societies”. Now, they’re

I will never not be amused by the guys who inevitably respond to this story with “hey frats help a lot of people with fundraisers and shit!”, as if that offsets or justifies all the harm they do. Like when all the Catholics came to the Church’s defense by saying “yes they turned a blind eye to centuries of

I wrote an article much like this one for the student newspaper where I went to school.
