I work in HR for a software company and some of our best programmers have physics backgrounds, not comp sci degrees. Our software is used to reduce the carbon emissions of buildings, so it helps if programmers understand the physics behind the technology. We find that the best programmers are mainly self taught

Three of my friends graduated with 2:2s (two in physics, one in maths) and they are now employed in graduate jobs. One spent almost two years applying and perfecting interviewing techniques whilst doing unrelated voluntary work that gave her commercial experience and eventually got an accountancy job in the big four,

I interview people regularly for engineering roles. I'd much rather see a recent graduate with a 2.II and some useful skills than someone with a 1st who just learned to pass exams. Perhaps I'm biased because I too have had my CV/resume rejected out-of-hand by financial firms because my undergrad degree was a 2.II:
