Yep. Fighter pilots have been zoom-climbing and dive-bombing their jets from zero to 15,000 feet and back for fifty years. Even with cockpit pressurization (nominally set to 8,000 feet), the net change to the pilot is about 7,000 feet of delta in well under 30 seconds. Unless one is having a sinus issue, the big up

Or, perhaps the crew heeled the boat over so far that the rotation is correct, but the height he dove from was very low.

It appears he was over rotating from the beginning, and the head first, diving landing shown does not match the original rotation. It looks like two different dives, spliced together. This is reinforced by the fact that there were many cameras rolling, but no single wide shot of the jump were displayed.

"The idea, of course, is to make a common tragedy—kids injured accidentally by guns—less common."

Nope. Their boards (aka speedbrakes, aka air brakes, aka the four panels, each about 2'x5', two on each side of the engine's nozzle) are deployed.

I can state with absolute certainty that there is NO WAY a watch/watch battery can generate enough RF microwave energy to cause a burn. Maybe, if the battery shorted out, the watch could heat up enough to cause a burn, but that is different.

You forgot to mention that Bill Clinton commuted his sentence.

What's your background, Tim? You have some pretty strong opinions.

You can only tie the low altitude record.

Yep. Watch Apollo 13 and you'll hear the astronauts power up the IMU. Prior to GPS, this was the only way vehicles far away from radio navaids could keep track of themselves. GPS greatly increased their accuracy, since they could now be updated frequently and with preceision.

The problem is, the criminal may or may not hold up his end of the contract he forces one to enter when he says, "Your money or your life." He has already proven he is not one to adhere to social norms or moral behavior. So, one might hand over the $100 and then discover he feels like eliminating his witness.

Ejecting is truly the second to last thing you want to do in a jet, dying being the last. It is by no means a guarantee of surviving, with a significant proportion of pilots who punch out perishing, anyway.

Employed by the government doing a useless job = collecting government unemployment. It is the functional equivalent of paying people to dig holes and then fill them in.

Both the interns and the cheerleaders are being "paid," just not with money. Interns get experience, a reputation, and a foot in the door; that is their pay. Cheerleaders get minor fame, comradery, increased social prestige, and an interesting Sunday; that is their pay. They know it. They accept the silly rules

Unfortunately, the crew compartment of a Mars ship will likely be about as big as a small motor home. If it spiraled like a football, the ten foot diameter and high rotational speed would make for a very nauseating experience. If twirled like a baton, the large differential between the ends and the middle would make

Ever been in a centrifuge? The smaller its diameter, the more disruptive it is to the vestibular system, since angular changes from small head movements are magnified when the head is whipping around a circle. If the direction of G is inconsequential to benefits, I could see a Gravitron-like sleeping quarters, but
