You certainly have a lot to say about shooting and defensive tactics. What are your qualifications in those areas, if you please? I'm a former military combat aircrew officer, a certified firearms instructor, a CHL holder in three states, and a person with 36 years of shooting experience with rifles, shotguns, and

You wear it on your person, or you lock it in your drawer and keep the keys on your person. If you hear shooting, you get the gun, you tell the kids to go to the corner, and you stand in a different corner, pointing your gun at the door. If the door opens and the person coming through it has his own gun out and is

Just because one owns a gun and knows how to use it for self protection does not mean a) one wants to do so, and b) one's success will be guaranteed. Like vaccinations and fire extinguishers, guns greatly improve the odds; they are not foolproof.

We can't keep weapons from entering and killing from happening in prisons. What makes you think you can stop either in a country of 4M square miles. The arrogance...

I've flown with mine in my wallet four round-trips in the last two years. Either the TSA doesn't see it, or they don't care.

What does this anti-gun tirade have to do with technology? The AR-15 was designed in the 1950s and has been sold to civilians in the exact same form since the early 60s. I don't come to Gizmodo to hear this sort of political editorializing.

I agree. Our views differ. My summary:

He didn't escalate the situation, they did. He responded to their escalation.

I could show you plenty of studies that show booger-eating monkeys banging on their keyboards *might* cause cancer. Anything *might* cause cancer.

Do you have any experience with firearms or law enforcement? On what generally accepted principle do you base your assertion? Is it your position that police officers may not discharge their firearms unless they can guarantee hitting their target? If so, your statement reflects a position based somewhere far away

Gosh, she must have been so afraid for her "CHILDREN" that she completely forgot about her role as one of a fleeing trio of criminals and the completely easy route of surrendering to the arresting deputy. Instead, the driver's panic and chain of poor decisions led to her accomplice's absorbing one of the deputy's

One never sees the authors of posts such as this making any firm commitments to be the first in line. Did you mean *other* humans?

Gee, I wish we could just spend our money on unicorn food, rainbow projectors, "free" cell phones for all, and a big concert where we all hug and sing Kumbaya.

This is ridiculous.

This training that police officers receive is probably much less than you imagine. Most officers must go stand on a firing line and shoot a stationary target to qualify periodically, maybe once or twice a year. Most officers do not shoot combat courses, practice rapid fire, do malfunction drills, or train in any way

Such studies fail to include the prophylactic (yet difficult to quantify) good caused by the available presence of guns in homes and usually fail to include the incidences of defensive gun "use" that don't involve pulling the trigger. Naturally, guns in homes will cause some level of gun mishaps and even criminal use

Bold, yet hoplophobic, statement. Cite your source, please.

Thrust (Watt output) is only half the equation. How does your thrust-to-weight ratio compare to the selected cyclist? To match a 160 lb. professional putting out 1800 Watts, a 120 lb. amateur needs only to generate 1350 Watts.
