Were are you getting the 80% plastic figure? I own one, I see mostly metal... It weighs >25 pounds. The base and platter are both clearly metal.
I own the LP120, I believe you're mistaken about belt drive, I know you're mistaken about mostly plastic. The thing is mostly metal, and weighs a ton. You are are spot-on regarding criticism of the pre-amp... Folks braver than I are known to remove it.
