EXACTLY. Not to mention it is a masterpiece of engineering, delivering many 'firsts'. First super car with 16 cylinders, first production one to 400km/h and so on. The engineering behind it is for me the main reason to have one.

The Lamborghini rod, that was the price for the part itself. Nothing else. We fixed it at home. At the end I welded the broken one and bought the new one just in case it breaks again (what I am sure it will at one point - when it happens I have a new one ready to go). Given the amount of work required to remove the…
Doug keep in mind that this GREATLY varies from location to location, state to state and country to country. Here in Canada, at least in Ottawa, the girls DO look at the car. AND if my wife goes out on the Porsche or Lamborghini, she gets MASSIVE attention, especially with the Lamborghini. Sure the fact she is very…
PLEASE I BEG YOU to let me know when you are ready to sell the car. By that time it will have every single part replaced on it and will be brand new. So yes, I will buy it for probably $4,000 from you after you (well CarMax) replaces every single part on it. I am hoping you will be able to seize/blow up the engine at…
That would not be the case. I spent $6000 because again, I am nuts about how my cars look, drive and work. I could certainly have saved some and be in the $3000 range. Also note the amount spent included stuff I will not do again in a long time given my driving habits/needs. I would say over a 3-year period the…
Did you reply to this from jail? LOL. Fuck Virginia man. Not even in Canada, the land of stupid laws, we have that. Geez.
The question is here how much of the $31,000 were indeed used in proactive maintenance. If it was money used just to fix stuff that broke, as I explained, it would be just a matter of time for the side effects of the reactive maintenance approach to catch up leading to more things going sour.
The E65 is actually the one that replaced the E38. The E32 is the one before. So it is E32 —> E38 —> E65. To be honest they are all fairly reliable BUT again, you need to stay on top of them. No neglects. If you neglect it, it will bite you down the road 100% guaranteed. There is no cutting corners with these cars,…
What do you mean? BMW 7-series? If so, I own an E38 BMW 750iL with the V12. Bulletproof car, as good, if not better maintenance wise, than any Mercedes. BUT exactly like the flagship Mercedes, you MUST take a proactive maintenance approach. If you do that, these things, BMW or Mercedes, will run forever and will not…
The key word here is UNMOLESTED. I can bet out of the 10,000 in NA, 9,000 are already severely molested. How much mulah will take you to get it back to mint/near mint, that is the question. Agree with you this is CRAZY but again some cars it is becoming almost impossible to find a pristine, stock used one. Even that…
You mean forward/reverse right?
I think the point made is all the goodies mentioned were in the S or similar class 14 years ago but now you are seeing the same on a Kia Forte but NOT on a C-class for example. Doug correct me if I am wrong but his point is this will force Mercedes and every other premium brand to bring all this tech to their entry…
I know how much being an Engineer can help. LOL. My son is indeed amazing mechanically speaking BUT as a 19-year old he lacks patience, one of the most important skills you need when fixing anything Italian or German. That is when I step in and the end result, well, the cars are in top shape and working great.
As an owner I guess I have a good perspective/understanding on the subject, especially given a lot of the work needed on my cars is done at home.
The one reason I am never selling my 6-speed one. No Huracan for me or any more Lambos at all thanks to their decision to drop the manual transmission. The V12 Lambos always looked way too wide for my tastes, not to mention how heavy they are and feel compared to the V10s.
Couple more from my private collection...
No worries. :-) If you ever in Ottawa just shout.
My only point was to make it clear I do believe $65,000 for anything new is a lot when there are so many better options out there for the same price or a little more if buying used. Just wanted to give people references based on my own real world experience. No need to brag about anything. Not me at all.
DID YOU ASK AROUND? Dang.
I don't know. As much as I like torque and power, $65,000 is still $65,000. For a new vehicle I mean. Get that money and buy used and you can get SOOOO much car for the money that it makes no sense for me to spend that amount of mulah on anything new.
