Well I can comment on the 7-Series as I own a 1999 750iL with the 5.4L V12. Extremely reliable IF and a BIG IF, well maintained. That means you will replace anything by the book, BEFORE it breaks. If a water pump is supposed to be replaced at 100,000 miles, DO IT at 90,000. Injectors? Do them before 120,000 miles.
