But I do know how to code them. I'm a game developer. That's the one thing I DO know how to do in life.
No problem!
I hope nobody feels like I'm talking down to them with this, either. Game development is weird and unintuitive for the most part, so hopefully it's more like "Oh, okay, that's weird but it makes more sense than 'ha ha we made this stuff and now we're gonna charge you to access it just because!'"
I understand that, after you finish up development, there is probably a bit of free time for Devs to start on DLC while the QA people go to town on everything. But the issue with destiny is that, someone looked at it once the initial development was finished and said "Thats a good amount of content for the base game,…
Video game enthusiasts swear they know how games are developed. This whole thing is such a non-issue, it's baffling.
For anyone who's not sure how this works, here's a quick primer (source: I work in game development):
When you make a big, open-world style game like Destiny, there's a lot of stuff that goes into what is essentially pre-visualization.
What are you trying to look like, a secret agent?
You are being reasonable. There is no place for that on a video game blog.
Makes sense. I'm not a game dev but if you've ever designed something you know it's a lot easier to add to that thing if you build your base product with expansion already in mind.
I play guitar, I don't call myself a musician. I like bowling, I don't call myself a bowler. I go to the movies a few times a month, I don't call myself a moviegoer.
But... "Gamer" is an identity to be proud of, like "casual pianist" or "part-time Red Lobster mascot", so how dare she claim the title "gamer" is dead and lost all meaning!
The interview was very well done and touched upon something that a lot of people fail to realize; being a gamer is not a "lifestyle", it is a fucking hobby, just like para-sailing or scuba-diving. You do not base your entire lives around this one small aspect of it because in the end, it is and always will be just a…
It's so sad because Destiny had HUGE potential. Many of the dev diaries and E3 footage pointed towards a more enjoyable story driven experience, however I blame Activision more than Bungie at this point for what the game has turned into.
I feel like the question is: One year from now, when there have been 3-4 at the most DLCs adding apparently 3-4 raids and 3-5 strikes to the Xbox version to grind on over 12 months, will anyone on Xbox still be playing this game?
I'm there with you, dude. I was stoked about it. Hell, it was fun for the first few hours. Then everything started to become clear. I realized how bare bones and devoid of content it really was. Ugh, worst part is I got the season pass early on thinking it was great. I'm no the Xbox One. I might as well have burnt…
Well let me bring up something which you seem to keep bringing up in this article:
Don't like it? Shut up about it. ;)
Moral: Caveat Emptor
I'm not having this conversation again with somebody who is going to start off with cry more nooblet. Clearly you have nothing legitimate to say.
It's really disappointing that this is the way the game is going.
