Not to mention all the people who were compelled to plead guilty to lesser forms of homicide to avoid the very threat of the death penalty.

I thought this was one of the worst Curb episodes. A lazy and kind of offensive PTSD plot line and a character shooting live goddamn artillery over some mean words.
Once the Funk man told Larry that he’s his best friend at that dinner party (which Larry hilariously denied), it became clear to me that at least in Marty’s case, he is too desperate for friends to ever break it off with LD.
That’s the joke.jpg
They didn’t obtain Barstool. They are broadcasting a show that has barstool in the title that is produced by a third party.
He is already charged with murder, as the article says. Apparently in Maryland “hate crime resulting in death” is a wholly separate offense.
Thank god this isn’t the type of conduct that results in criminal charges.
I’m a public defender. I get cases thrown out on “technicalities” (usually some pesky little violation of an amendment to the United States constitution) all the time. Are all the woke liberals in the comment section of this article upset about that?
God bless you for trying to have an actual legal discussion in a Jezebel comment section.
Sounds like you do support the death penalty then.
If he gets charges they will be in state court, which Trump can’t do shit about.
Might have something to do with the fact that another inmate died in jail this week.
Which itself is a poorly drawn version of the Kansas Jayhawk.
Yes. You could win by either scoring more points (lame) or by killing the other team (awesome).
Uh, no, I’m saying that if that was how the jury split, it wouldn’t have been a mistrial. It would have been a conviction for manslaughter. The author was wrong to speculate that the jury split 6 guilty of murder, 6 guilty of manslaughter, because that would equal 12 guilty of manslaughter and no mistrial.
And that was not meant to overlook the point you raised, which is that Batson challenges are easily overcome by the government. The podcast More Perfect addressed this in their episode called “Object Anyway”. But I’m not sure what the solution is myself.
As a public defender who represents almost all black clients, for the love of god don’t get rid of peremptory strikes. That’s the only way to get rid of 80 year old suburbanites who want nothing more than to put a black kid in prison, but who would never say anything remotely racist during jury selection to justify a…
six for murder and six for the lesser charge of manslaughter.
As a public defender I cringe at the thought of the State having more control over who does or doesn’t get on a jury.
Why would he sue the crime lab that ultimately exonerated him? And 90 days is sadly a totally normal, if not somewhat quick turnaround for lab results, especially in a state as big as Florida.
