It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see where things go from here — just a passing look at what happened a decade ago.

I think it’s to reduce emissions – not impact fuel economy. I have a car with auto stop/start, it’s a total non-issue for me. I can barely even notice it.

it does reduce emissions in city driving,   has a significant effect on urban air quality.

I think they include it, and don’t allow you to permanently turn it off, because it makes a difference for the automaker meeting emission requirements across their entire lineup. It might save the consumer only a quarter gallon of gas a year, but across a million or two vehicles, it adds up.

My dad pays for it even though I offered to give him access to my youtube music account. Satellite radio is now just normal radio of the exact same songs on repeat and so many interruptions by “djs” and adds for the channel you’re listening to.

Satellite radio.

Reversing cameras and parking sensors, are they overrated?

I have a reservation for the Lightning and I’ve contacted my dealer multiple times and I still haven’t even seen an options list with prices. I was told I’ll have to wait until 10/26 when the order books supposedly open up, which is insane. And I still haven’t gotten my dealer to put in writing that they won’t charge

At the same time, why does everything have to come down to legality and signed agreements for things like this. Shouldn’t a well functioning system be easy to navigate, transparent, and not rely on having to protect yourself all the time?  An ideal system here should be relatively “frictionless” so to speak.

Obviously these type of dealership do not believe in long term relationship. They will be the first one to cry over direct selling model like Tesla, which hopefully become more popular down the road.

Yep, I know that I’ll probably get my reservation filled at a later date than most everyone else since I went with the small dealer in WV.

Asked my sales guy yesterday about this. Said they sell at MSRP and usually don’t get anything in writing, but could get something in writing if I wanted.

But profits. Sure, I mean, it’s bad for the global economy and whatever, but what about next quarter? THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

I bought a new car in May, right when trade-in prices were starting to climb but there was still enough inventory on the lot to have a choice of what I was getting. I’m so glad I didn’t dawdle.

You have the sales vs finance asshole all wrong and reversed.

I think salespeople are extremely useful. But I think what we have at car dealers aren’t sales people. Or maybe they are, but then that’s not what’s needed. Salespeople now are just supply movers. And they’re incentivized simply to move as much product as possible, in the worst way possible, because if they don’t they

To be fair, the salesperson I dealt with last year was excellent. He knew enough about the vehicle I wanted to be modestly helpful and did all the legwork for me to find the right car, within budget.

Sales people are not superfluous, but many do not know their role nor are trained for their role, which is to help people first, “upsell” second.

You seem to be under the impression that the department doesn’t have an entire staff of career bureaucrats whose job it is to do the actual work of the department.

Fortunately, he also knows how to delegate to the Deputy Secretary, and stayed in touch for the most urgent needs. Did you expect it to implode without him being at his desk each day?
