It is the traditional attire for women who have a private reception with the pope - black formal dress, veil and arms covered.

It’s the papal dress code for a private meeting, but they are going very very old school. Even Pope Francis has said that the dress code for meeting him can be more relaxed. Michelle Obama wore a black dress and veil when meeting the pope in a private audience, and the Queen does too.

Women have to be as invisible as possible, unless the pope specifically grants you permission to be seen, in which case you wear white. Such bollocks.

Yes, I believe it’s part of Catholic (or Vatican?) dress codes for women when they meet the pope. Although I think M’s veil is more accurate then Ivanka’s. Ivanka. I’m not Catholic though, so I’m not sure of the details.

Trump actually did a good job hiding his seething rage over the Vatican being much bigger and gaudier than Mar-a-Lago.

More to the point, are they really trying to tell us that this took place in front of them and they did nothing, although it was “obviously” horrible for their child?

I don’t know if I believe this - TyTy is often horrible but I don’t get her being physically abusive to a child.

Dicks aside, I’m amazed this turned out to be so good. I was very, very worried - so much of the book is about tone - and they’ve captured it perfectly. The lighting people need all the awards.

Fuck K-Con. Hijack!

Oopsie doopsie! I’ve committed a tiny bit of treason! Oh my!

Lol. I guess we have to wait til Saturday to hear Lovett’s take.

“Ooopsie doopsie I’ve joined a Nazi group” gives me life every time.

Friend of the Pod! They are keeping me (somewhat) sane. The interview with Kamala Harris was incredible. She’s my new hero.

So sorry for your loss and that horrible experience you and your family had to go through. That was just wrong and completely not justifiable by any means. I just don’t understand the Republican party. I mean, how do these people sleep at night and look at their family members (and themselves in the mirror)?

My dad got lucky. He worked for a family owned company that kept him employed so he could have insurance. He would go in to work when he felt okay and they would always send him home. He didn’t make it, but he had at least a fighting chance. It’s not a world I want to go back to, pre-Obamacare. I know it’s not perfect

To put himself through that, your father had more strength, love and courage than I can imagine. My mother recently died of bone cancer, but me and mine I have the extreme good fortune to be Australian citizens and entitled to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. This means the price of a massive range of prescription

Fucking hell. No one should have to make a choice like that.

What a waste. I’m sorry for your loss.

Jesus Christ. What a horrific story. I am so sorry that you & your family had to go through that. Death sucks already, but no one. No one. Should ever be in that situation.

Good God, that is...awful. I’m so sorry for your loss, and that our country’s policies made it so. Health care is a basic goddamn human right.
