Blue eyeshadow looks utterly ridiculous on me. It's golds, bronzes, coppers, and browns for me. I know what works with my coloring and I stick with it.

Right? Somebody told me I was ACTUALLY ABUSING my cat because I keep him indoors. My happy, healthy, much-beloved little boy is abused, because I don't let him get hit by cars or attacked by dogs. Insanity.
That has got to be the silliest thing I have ever heard.
Additionally I don't think that's a particularly good comparison since the point of taking dogs on walks is to exercise them, and my cat gets plenty of exercise indoors courtesy of his many toys (especially the laser pointer!). If he wants fresh air he sits in open windows, but he has no interest in leaving the house.
I've had cats been hit by cars, attacked by dogs, and contract feline leukemia from being outside. It's a risk I'm personally not willing to take anymore.
Most domesticated housecats are perfectly fine staying indoors. If people feel that they must let their cats outside, I think that supervised outdoor playtime is the best way to go.
Keep your cats indoors. Make sure your cats are spayed and neutered.
