Neutral: What’s another option instead of a buyback?
I disagree. The MK7 is lighter feels way more solid and has more room while being the same size on the outside. With the performance package the MK7 seemed significantly better than the MK6 to me. In fact i was cross shopping an MK6 Golf R with the MK7 2dr S and i preferred the feel of the MK7 better. Teh MK6 had more…
Always. They have always made the best GTI.
Having owned a Mk6 and now a Mk7, I think you be surprised at just how much a leap the MQB is over the older platform. Even though the Mk7 is dimensionally larger, it feels so much more tight and light from behind the wheel.
You have to keep context with the generation. Comparing a MkII built in the 80's to something from today... Of course it will feel underpowered. However, in its day, it offered a fantastic power to weight ratio, especially if you had a later 16v or the very fun (and often overlooked G60 supercharged variant... Not…
Say what you want about nostalgia, but the real answer has to be now. All the modern safety, amenities, room and power are a really great combination.
I’ve owned one. Great fuel economy and torque, the most fun to drive in the segment (car like driving experience) and the most fuel efficient so far. Factory tires are not stellar they are low resistance aimed to improve fuel efficiency. Interior quality is meh, but then is a truck. A bit cheaper to own and mantain…
Looks great! I especially love the red line VW added across the front.
Had a GTI for 7 years, loved it. Then had two consecutive BMW 335s over a period of 5 years, loved those. Traded a 335 for a 4Runner when I had kids, currently love that. Gave the 4Runner to my wife and traded her old Focus in to purchase my current commuter vehicle - you guessed it, another GTI. Coming back to a GTI…
The answer of course is a GTI.
I’m gonna go with the Volkswagen GTI. You really can't go wrong with one anywhere. It's pretty fast, fun, manual, practical, has a nice interior, and is relatively affordable to boot. It is truly the best of all worlds.
Mustang GT first car sounds like douchebag starter kit.
1. Take car to VW for reflash. 2. Collect $5k. 3. Spend $500 on chip. 4. Buy $4,500 of beer.
It’s funny that I am more excited about a video of 3 fools procrastinating than a video of fast cars that you see in the New Top Gear teaser.
Knowing VW’s penchant for understating power (among other things), I bet the 305 hp rating is closer to whp than at the crank. At the crank the Clubsport is probably closer to 335hp-350hp.
I giggled. And then immediately went to Craigslist to find myself another FB.
+1 for your prose. I’ll be using “uneven warble” in other contexts.
VW typically get praised for the fit and finish of their interiors, switches included. The switchgear in a Golf 7 is easily as nice as that in my dad’s 3-series, which isn’t exactly a budget car.
