People did die after the introduction of seat belts and airbags. We still wouldn’t look back.

How do we know Autopilot was on? The guy who was driving died. They’re just guessing that it was on because the video shows that no one reacted to the street sweeper. It could have just as easily been one of the thousands of inattentive driver accidents?

What’s wrong with the name Autopilot? Tesla’s system possibly even more advanced and capable of more decision making than the Aeronautical Autopilot it is named after. A plane’s autopilot is only capable of flying in the direction, and at the speed it is instructed to, much like Tesla’s.

If we allowed progress to stall because people do stupid things with it, then we never should have invented cars in the first place, because between drunk driving, bad driving, and people doing stupid things, we kill tens of thousands of people a year. People will always do stupid things, with or without new

You described ways that aircraft Autopilot is less difficult to accomplish than vehicle autopilot, not how it is “better”

Musk and Tesla have always been 100% accurate and consistent with their messaging. They have to be, or they would be at risk of serious legal liability. Meanwhile, Mercedes is literally advertising their new, less capable E-Class as “A self-driving car from self-driven company”. Maybe we should be giving them more

In what way is an Aircraft autopilot better than Tesla Autopilot?

They already have surpassed plane autopilot. Aircraft autopilot is unable to modify its speed or direction based on sensor inputs. Plane autopilot is solely directional and velocity maintenance. Teslas can adjust speed and direction based on sensor inputs, and do rudimentary object avoidance based on side sensors. In

It wasn’t misnamed. Autopilot in a Tesla does exactly what autopilot in a plane does. A plane with autopilot can’t fly itself, it isnt autonomous. It just keeps the plane facing the correct direction, at the correct speed.

Without getting too far the jerk-mobile, pretty sure more people have ridden in Model 3s than Bolts, so ‘exists’ is a stretch. I agree it’ll be a surprise if Tesla accomplishes what they said they would, particularly by 2018, but people have doubted them before...

A 95 on CR?! Quick, help me get my panties off.

When they seat the same people, go the same range and cost the same money, they’re comparable. It’s a comparison that looks bad for Chevy, but a comparison none the less.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. From that perspective it makes more sense. It’s more of a “my car broke down” emergency fund, not a “I lost my job for 6 months” emergency fund.

At least $3000 in emergency fund? I thought it was supposed to be 6 months. $3000 would only cover 15 days for us...

I got so many of those damn things on different sales, its particularly Black Friday and then that Home Depot ‘Strip Plus’ pricing debacle a while back. I think I have a total of 36 individual Hue lights in the house and it cost no more than $500. Its really obscene.

Unfortunately even though everyone who knew what they were talking about knew they were full of crap, those reports and the media frenzy created by them set Audi back decades in the US, if they ever recovered.

I’d be interested in finding out numbers on the amount of money PCMRs spend on upgrading their machines every year or two. Believe me, there are LOTS of reasons why PCs are the way to go, but saving money May not be one of them.

Good thing they hired the person responsible for the fit and finish of the Audi A4, one of the Model 3's primary gas competitors.
