One thing that KIND OF helps is to make note of when the event is happening, then ask them to repeat it back to you (FWIW, later today might be okay, but tomorrow might as well be next year).

The slowness by which Bills fan bystanders tend to him (not to mention the fact they held onto their beers) is as 1:1 on-brand as it gets.
