evidently having taken his eight-game suspension to heart.
FERRY INTERIOR:
“Did that guy on the loudspeaker just say he was going to blow us up in 15 minutes unless someone makes an off-balance 21-foot jumper while double-teamed?”
It’s easy to see how this story got twisted. It’s like when my friends thought I said I banged that hot chick in high school, whereas what I really meant to say is that I angrily cry-masturbated to her yearbook picture on numerous occasions. Simple miscommunication, really.
Unless they were Space Marines, then they still made all their armo(u)r saves.
That’s not true. He told them to make sure Jerry wouldn’t bring them on campus.
Trivium estimates the roll totaled 756,000.
Absolutely.
Somebody’s 40K army just got annihilated!
The Paterno/McQueary conversation as it plays out in the fevered imaginations of Gladwell, Jenkins, et al:
It’s ok people, they’re only D6's. If they were D4's, we’d have a full on Lego situation on our hands.
A wiser man than I summed him up best- Gladwell writes books for people who don’t read books.
Gladwell has made an absolute killing by writing “Maybe just trust your gut” to boomers who just wanted confirmation bias that everything they think is right anyway.
Also, you don’t need a PhD to understand child rape/molestation. Paterno was a force and an institution at Penn State. He didn’t do that by being a kindly…
Simmons: Right.
Joe Paterno knew in the 70s that Sandusky was raping kids. Forty goddamned years as an assistant to JoePa with Joe knowing that this guy was raping kids and he did nothing.
In Gladwell’s defense, the Penn State coaching staff and administration probably spent more than 10,000 hours raping children and ignoring it, so he’d have to reject the entire premise of one of his own books if he didn’t recognize their expertise in the field.
In a fluke year in Colorado where his OPS+ was lower than it is this year. The rest of his career was mediocre at best.
I used to joke in the late 90s and early 00s they had a machine they could plug mediocre players into and an hour later they’d pop out and play like all stars.
Counterpoint: DJ LeMahieu is a 30 year old player who until this year had done nothing much of consequence in the major leagues. 92 OPS+.
