The difference is that there’s no Oscar category for “Best Indie Film.” That’s because “indie” isn’t a genre or specific element of filmmaking. That’s why “indie” shouldn’t be an award category. It doesn’t have any specific criteria and is absurdly broad.

Where are you reading these conversations? Of all the criticisms I’ve read, either on places like this or the Starfield Reddit, nothing strikes me as “console war nonsense”. And as someone who is slogging through it at the moment just out of a weird need to be DONE with it, I can assure you that none of my criticisms…

The console wars have nothing to do with Starfield not being a contender. I always buy every console, and I’d say I even lean towards preferring the Xbox just because of how much I love my Elite V2 controller.

Maybe? But I feel like they set themselves up for it. Microsoft literally described Starfield as one of the most important RPGs ever made, and then it barely even made the list of nominees. I think if they’re going to oversell it like that it’s fair to call them out.
