Like I said, he beat out Lyles this year and Lyles is very much a stud. Look at a mock draft and you'll see Lyles far ahead of Poythress.

wait, so john calipari shouldn't help young men become millionaires? if he moves on to coach in the nba, is he no longer an exploitative asshole? the context of poythress' situation was off base in the first place. poythress was always going to be a marginal pro at best. he knew that himself after his freshman year.

"What good is his flouting of the NCAA's fraudulent morality when the consequences never adhere to him, but only to 19-year-olds who make questionable choices, or whom he leaves behind?"

Why? He's improved every season and was deserving of being a starter over Lyles this year. If he comes back, he'll have every opportunity like the upperclassmen in 2012. And UK will be better for his return.

You're arguing against the NBA rather than Cal, UK or the NCAA. Poythress averaged 11 ppg as a freshman and 6 as sophomore and never once showed the talent to be 1st rd draft pick. Kyle Wiltjer was part of the same #1 class, transferred and still is not NBA bound. Marcus Lee is the same boat a year later. HS school

Plus there's also the fact that Poythress can still come back to play for Kentucky and re-solidify his draft stock next season and possibly the season after that if he's granted an extra year of eligibility from this injury. His basketball career is not nearly as uncertain as Burneko made it seem.

Of course Poythress didn't choose UK for academics, and though none of us really understand the relationship he has with his sister, I don't think that is really anything of note either. The question for me is how the conversation can jump so seamlessly from Cal isn't a savior to Cal is a fucking asshole because he

I'm still confused as to how the blame for this rests entirely on Cal, and how this is a refutation of the whole "Players First" mentality.

I think the point was to suggest Poythress was a bad example to use as ammunition against the NCAA (and Cal as a byproduct). And I think McCarthy got it spot on.

You've argued yourself into like five different circles there. Someone else can sweep up, but Kevin Love is not "cheap" and a player of his (at the time widely presumed) caliber isn't just some cheap rim protector and pieces;

This comment is fundamentally insane. First, "trade Towns for a cheap rim-protecting big and some other pieces." Nah.

I get that DS is general interest and not very nerdy, and, honestly the NBA nerds have been tough on Jackson this year, too. But there are some flaws in this analysis:

Nematodes are worms, they just aren't segmented worms. They're in the roundworms group; and they're very hungry :)

Nowhere in this article does it explain how the one-death system works or even how it could work.

"He did all this while still labeling himself as a comedian—something that served as a handy defense mechanism for him, as noted by many people"

He's not running for President. Nor should he. His strengths lie as a comedian commenting on the news, comedically. Now, I know his recent movie was very much a serious one and I would not be surprised to see him return to serious issues. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him eventually return to TV at some point in
