Except societies have risen and flourished without those principles as well. Not to mention that the majority of societies, even those that had those principles, have also crashed and burned.

In the face of a significant enough EMP or CME, fossil fuels will do fuck all. The loss of the electrical grid won’t change just because fossil fuels are the ones providing the power to it. In fact, properly made solar panels can be put back into operation with the replacement of a single item.

Religious freedom is 100% a right granted by the system. If it were something given by their “Creator”, then every person of a different religion would have a different set of freedoms since their “Creators” all have different opinions on the matter.
