Steam, in and of itself, is not what people consider “DRM.” It does offer an optional bit of DRM (a very weak bit) called CEG that developers can use if they want, but it is not mandatory. There are more than a few games on Steam that don’t use it at all.

I prefer using my Wii U Pro controller, personally. Weighs next to nothing, ridiculous battery life and the controls are good quality.
