I worked extensivly improving the reliability of those trucks as loads and mssions changed. It’s not just “shit happens” they have serious reliability issues.
Until the power steering blows up and you have transmission problems.
Obsolete is a relative term. Better performance and economy? Sure. Does it do the same job as when it was new? Absolutely. Unless your lifestyle changes significantly you should have enough excess range to take a 15% range hit over 10 years.
Did you switch to CFL light bulbs? You knew LED light bulbs were right around…
I remember hearing in an interview that Jeff Goldblum was still driving the ML they gave him 10 years after the fact.
Leasing a car is like renting a house, it’s a bad idea if you can help it. If you can’t afford the BMW now and BUY a Fiesta. Use those lease payment savings to save up for the BMW.
The diesels still need a bit more love and attention. The common rail cars are very sensitive to fuel quality and often need fuel filters every 20k miles or so. The emissions systems are so much more complex and so much more expensive in just parts than a comparable gasser.
I ran a VW diesel shop for 5 years. About 30% of my work was on gassers. The diesels always had more problems and were more expensive to fix. The emissions systems on the diesels are so complex and the parts so expensive it’s not worth buying one unless you need a work truck for towing.
You are not factoring in repairs, the diesel is a roughly 50% more expensive in parts and maintenance.
Drive a BMW i3, and E Golf and a Tesla, you’ll want something with an electric drivetrain.
I just bought a 2014 Fiesta 1 liter hatch, it had been sitting on the lot for a year. With their $2,600 in incentives and my $4,000 down it made getting credit much simpler.
You could always work for Volkswagen...
If you own one built like that you’ll learn to replace wheel bearings.
Intern- “ Lead design San, I have this revolutionary styling idea!”
Chief Designer- “Why don’t you take a seat have one of these....”
That’s a very steep windscreen, it looks weird in size profile.
I don’t know, my VWs take a shit on my almost daily.
It’s all about power to weight, horsepower means nothing. An AWD Fiesta RS with the same 2.3 would be bonkers.
Mythbusters is marginal science at best. Unless you’ve calculated a P value it’s not serious science.
People that don’t want to spend another 4k on winter wheels. The guy who guys a Cayenne GTS or similar is not going to rock steel wheels 99 times out of 100.
