I think you're right. I'd imagine the easiest way would be to add some major feature to the thing and to justify giving it a new name, keep the 'Wii' or 'Wii U' name as a prefix, and then downplay it so it's latter name half becomes dominate.

I think some people are just more sensitive to the high pitched noise than others. I hear it from all my a/c wall chargers, and power bricks. The PS2 Slim used to the worse for it, I had to put it in a drawer to keep it from driving me nuts.
