@nbergseng: I bet is was due to cost. Durable touch screens have been around for a long time, but I bet that the hard CRT surface, v.s. a flexible LCD system was chosen over perceived long term ware.

@Boognish: I bet the newer hiking version is more impervious, but the only thing that can prevent puncture vine from enter a foot is a thick soul, something that these shoes lack.

Eschenbach makes great lenses, but beyond that their company reps are top notch. I work with a lot people with limited vision and I a have seen them loan out several magnifiers, speciality monoculars, etc. so a person can try them out. I have heard them talk somebody into a more reasonable purchase that fit that…
