You’re right, nothing stopping him from doing it again. Thats why people need to understand there are real, hard consequences for their actions. If he loses his job and has to sit in a jail cell, and pay restitution when he gets out, then he will think twice next time, and be an example to others. He was on probation…
There’s a big difference between forfeiting the car when you’ve actually been convicted, and civil forfeiture, which doesn't require a criminal conviction.
Uh, yes.
You only have your parents, teachers, and coaches to blame for giving you a sense of responsibility and morality. Sometimes life is hard.
And maybe he will end up paying for it, but there will always be tertiary costs that can't be repaid or accounted for, like having to build the jail in the first place, or the bureaucracy that oversaw the build, or the maintenance for the infrastructure required. Billing people for the cost is one thing, but actually…
Doesn’t the judge take your license right away?
How about throwing him in the slammer AND fine him sufficiently to pay for his stay?
LOL. And federal income tax is optional too, right.
Surprised they didn’t impound the buggy either. If you street race, they take your car and crush it.
Nope. But it’s a start. The cost/punishment gets steeper every time Mr. Moron screws up by crossing the lines he’s been ordered to abide. If the dude doesn’t abide, he pays a bigger price.
He got a symbolic token jail sentence. He’s not going to prison. He’s going to county for a few days to “prove” that the penalty is more than monetary.
Lack of license stops people all the time. Right?
Given his past record it appears he’s a very slow learner. That he “might” have his license revoked bothers me. At the very least, given the slap-on-the-wrist punishment, he should have his license pulled for a year.
Not to mention the destruction of private property driving all over the plants at that office park.
Separate jurisdiction. What’s funny is in something like a DUI case, the DMV is way quicker that the criminal court system. At least that’s what I gather from my idiot friends whom have gotten DUI’s.
Wilkey may have his driver’s license suspended for at least six months, said City Attorney spokesman Gerry Braun, citing Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
That's it, huh. I would have figured a reckless endangerment charge or something serious. Are they taking his license away permanently at least?
I assume his license is revoked too.
Yeah, but often that leads to: “Ooooh, lez sex! Threesome?/ can I watch?/tell me what it’s like!!!”
