I work in wildlife conservation at the moment and we do attempt to educate people about what they can do to help in situations like this that just seem too big and too depressing/overwhelming. We encourage people to take care of their own backyard first because that's where they can make the most difference. Palm oil

Yeah I get tired of the criticism of other cultures and their eating habits. e.g. people getting really upset about cats and dogs eaten in some Asian nations. Sure, it bothers me too, but as a vegan, so does the consumption of pigs and cows. It's not so different really, so it just comes off as racist and xenophobic.

Haha a eugenics argument FOR inbreeding dogs?! Now I've heard everything...

Alright! That's more like it. :) If you adopt one who already exists rather than creating demand and bringing a new one into the world - that shit is right on.

I know dogs are part of the family - both of mine are rescues. I saved their lives by adopting them and I'm stoked to have them in my life every day.

Self-fulfilling prophecy perhaps?

Ha! Get off yours! Even your "responsible" breeders had to artificially inseminate the dog in order to create puppies and they will have almost definitely have been born by C-section. Bulldogs just shouldn't exist. Full stop. Plus, for every puppy bought from a breeder, that's a puppy put down in a shelter because

Thanks, I'll try that next time - I just didn't think we were in "handshake territory" until my male workmate came along! It was all very casual so I didn't expect it.

Way to miss the point. Such health issues are pretty common anyway, but me "hoping" for it doesn't actually make it more likely to happen. You know what does make suffering like that more likely? Buying animals that are inherently unhealthy and creating demand for them. There is more to animals than squee.

Oh IKR? Dontcha hate those fuckin killjoy losers who think of animals as more than something you"own" but as living breathing (ha, sometimes!) creatures with their own inherent interests?! /s

Kind of OT - but the handshake thing. I was at work yesterday for a function, with two other female co-workers, one male, and the client. The male co-worker arrives last (as in, a matter of seconds later) and he was THE ONLY one out of the four of us that got a handshake, a brief introduction and a "how are ya mate?"

Tell them to get their own damn TastyKakes! What you put in your body is your business and what they eat is theirs. It's great your friends are making an effort to be healthy, but they shouldn't be making you feel inferior. I ate a hell of a lot of crap food when I was your age and I have grown up with reasonably

What? That isn't true, you have to do all sorts of complicated statistical tests to determine whether a result is statistically significant, or whether those same results could have occurred by chance. I don't think "P value" means what you think it means.

I think you're right. But was that difference (between 25 and 37) significant? It just doesn't seem a lot.

"37% of the men picked the face which shared the most features with theirs." So 63% didn't? This is what that means, right?

LOL, YES! Well, with all these sheep we have to do something with all the wool lying around...

I bow to your hat making skills

Write to them and tell them as much! A few tweaks and this could be an awesome, inoffensive line of toys.

They also have a "Create Your Own Indian Headdress" toy if anyone wants to be outraged about that: http://www.goodthingsforkids.com/product/221/
