"Some of the reasons for wanting to be a parent are selfish."

You're right, I will never understand the push people feel to spread their genes.

I wouldn't know, I've never tried to get pregnant nor will I ever try.

You know that I have absolutely no power to force people into adopting rather than reproducing, right? Because, judging how personally you are taking this, you seem to think I'm going to bust into your house and slip you birth control pills so you never get pregnant. Go ahead and have as many kids as you want, just

Not at all! I'm sorry you took it that way and perhaps I should have clarified.

I don't think it's unreasonable, personally. A child adopted, regardless of age, is a child taken out of the system and, hopefully, placed in a loving home.

That was in an article about a girl with a type of cancer. It's been a while since I read it, but the notion of having another kid to provide marrow for their sick daughter was so horrendous that I remember that part very vividly. No matter how good they treat their son, he is going to grow up and realize the main

I have already done the depressingly bleak research into female infanticide, thanks. And you agree that it is monstrous, right? Which was entirely my point. An abortion for a mental or physical health issue is much easier to understand than someone aborting a baby because of it's gender.

It's so sad that when a child turns a certain age, they are considered "too old" and are less likely to be adopted. I can understand wanting to raise a child from infancy, but an older child will already have a developed personality and you generally know, barring any disabilities, what kind of person a child can

Your twisting my words around is pretty astounding as well.

Fair enough. Personally I think people would be more understanding of an abortion if it's because of a mental disability, as opposed to something like gender.

This is very true. We could talk about the law all day long, but it doesn't mean anything if the woman doesn't want to abort.

I don't have any children, nor will I ever. I am not in a position of financial or emotional stability in order for me to provide a good and loving home to raise a child. I also have genetic illnesses that I would pass along to any biological child I would have.

A cycle of IVF costs upwards of 10k and most couples have to do multiple cycles to ensure a successful pregnancy and birth. And who the fuck has a biological kid because the kid or another family member might need blood transfusions and organ transplants? Of all the reasons people have kids, I have never heard that

In your uncle's case, I can see why they would prefer a surrogate. It's disgusting to think adoption agencies won't place a child in a loving home simply because the adoptive parents are gay, but this is a thing some overseas adoption agencies do. It's infuriating.

Are you really comparing eye color and gender to a mental disability? Please try to come up with a better analogy, because that is just insulting.

Honestly, I'm getting different views of whether or not abortion is illegal in the case of fetal disability. This site http://worldabortionlaws.com/map/ says fetal impairment is a legal exception, yet the laws they posted on their site also says

I find it interesting that you think her motivation for not aborting the baby was money and not her religious beliefs.

Thailand has an abortion law that is category 3, which means it's illegal, with exceptions for maternal life, mental health, health, rape, and/or fetal defects. This case clearly fits the fetal defects part of the exceptions for abortion.

Same. You are already dropping a shit ton of money for those procedures, so why not take the money and adopt a child that is already here? Trust that your genes are not that fucking special that the world would collapse if you didn't have a biological kid.
