As long as the backlash is funny.

I’m trying to figure out if this is more of a “We made changes to adapt to TV and setting it thousands of years ago helps with that,” or a “We had our fantasy story to tell; setting it in the past of a license we bought helps cover our tracks” sort of adaption.

just because you add something to another work does not mean that you can call it “original” depending on the amount the work can be considered a derivative work and is still owned by the original artist. fanart is derivative work as example. If I drew Pikachu with a fancy hat even if that hat is original and SUPER

As someone who is invested and understands NFTs

“As a very smart person who knows lots of things, let me tell you about how smart I am and how many things I know. I am very smart about things that you are not smart about, but no, I will not explain how the smart things I know are actually smart or useful, you’ll just have to trust me about how smart I am.”

I’ve always rejected the idea of “Fun Bucks” currency that converts actual money to whatever in-game (or console) points systems there are. Most are always structured in a way where it’s never quite enough or too much, either making you have to buy extra values or have some unnecessarily leftover. Microsoft was a big

cryptocurrency and NFTs are a scam.

GoT Magic: “It doesn’t exist. Oh, ha, yeah it does exist, soz. Anyway, the White Walkers have zombies, dragons breathe fire and you can maybe see the future through something something leeches. Who knows? Beer?”

I have read the entirety of the expanse as well as the Wheel of Time. The adaptation of the former is true to the books there are many changes but if the names were all changed it would still be recognizable. I can barely recognize the wheel of time.

What’s throwing me for a loop is how some of the welcome changes to the source material have fallen flat. On the one hand, I’m stoked that they are not adhering to the eye-rolling gender binary supposedly, but the updates don’t entirely make sense and it still just seems much like the book with a quick mention that

I agree there’s only so much they can do, but they’re missing some big stuff. The book LEADS with the fact that Lews Therin went mad and killed his whole family, the great hero became a monster. That informs everyone’s perception of the Dragon Reborn. There’s a general superstition and awareness of the Shadow, ranging

The more I hear about this show, the happier I am that I kept the first three books.

I have read the series twice and listened to the Audio Books twice, but I still do not consider myself hardcore. But I am a big fan of the series. I am planning to read the Expanse books because I was told by others who did read them that they are good books and that the show is much closer to the books than WOT is.

Indeed, entire multi-novel arcs are going to be cut. They’ve got 8 seasons, probably max, and probably of never more than 8 episodes each, to tell a story told in 14 very long novels. Or, to put it another way, they have less time than Game of Thrones did to tell a story almost three times as long, and with far more

I’ve said this elsewhere...if this wasn’t based on a popular book, if it was an ‘original’ show, it would be actively hated for how barely mediocre it is.
all the money in the world can’t fix bad writing/directing/acting/production.

such a waste.

Rand is by far the most boring character in the books and doesn’t really become all that interesting until right at the end. “Zen Rand” as I call him in the final two books are interesting but the Rand in the lead up isn’t great as its literally ALL set up. So it makes sense to shift focus from his somewhat. That

The problem is not that Rafe did not write it for Hard Core Fans, he didn’t write it for any fans of the books. He calls this an adaptation from Page to Screen and at first was claiming changes were to make that transition work (casting, location, covid, etc) but it turns out he just wanted to write his own version of

I read some of the books a long time ago, stopped about book 7 when hundreds of pages went by with nothing happened. Still loved the setup and characters, though, so I tuned into the Amazon show.

I want to give this show a shot. Me and my partner haven’t read the books so we’ll be going in blind, which may be better.

Counterpoint: They didn’t pare away deadweight characters.

As pointed out, the series is massively complex. Changes they made now are going to become huge problems later on down the line. They are either going to have to introduce new characters or change/eliminate entire multi-novel story arcs. I count at least 3
