Aligned with your take. The entire thing feels like an exercise in super-generic fantasy tropes to me, a non-reader of the books. Nothing surprises, nothing sparkles. The CGI, settings and costumes are all blandly underwhelming, and the dialogue is ... woof. The casting is agreeable? I’ll probably keep watching…

The shielding was kinda cool, but so far I’ve been quite disappointed. As someone who usually finds the magic the weakest part of a FF book, I really enjoyed Jordan’s magic system (I found it more detailed and “scientifically” built than the Deux Ex Machina factories usually served up).

Might be, but the introduction of a female Dragon, even as a concept, is such a drastic change from the books that for that to be a possibility would require also the Aes Sedai to be fundamentally different. Which they are not.

I’m glad they are fleshing out the Nynaeve-Lan relationship. In the books, it felt like they barely talked and were suddenly deeply in love. I’m not a big fan of Jordan’s writing when it comes to romantic relationships in general; I hope the writers take a liberal hand adapting that aspect of the books.
