Yeah, that seems to be the difference between Europe and the US: if you're white in the US, you're just a white person (with all the privilege that affords). I know that historically, some European groups like the Irish weren't considered white, but nowadays they are.
I feel like I've felt this whole debate personally, as the descendant of different European immigrants. I'm 1/4 Welsh, 1/4 Polish, some small percentage Scottish, and probably a bit more than 1/4 German. My dad's half of the family (the Welsh and German side) is very, very homogenized with mainstream American culture.…

My dad flew model airplanes with a buddy for a short while in the 90's. In one video tape my dad recorded of them one day, you can see the other guy crossing himself (I'm assuming he was Catholic) before starting take-off with his model airplane. I'm guessing it can be VERY difficult to fly those suckers.

It seems to me that this "yelling" the article cites might be better classified as "verbal abuse". As someone who got a little physical abuse and a LOT of verbal abuse growing up, I can say it is indeed very damaging.
