“This is motor racing”

Hey, remember that time Deadspin said the men’s team doesn’t support the women’s team?

I’m not sure I really understand what you are saying.

NJT is awful. Just for daily riders, they cancel trains because workers call in sick and they can’t find replacements. Think about that. An entire train gets canceled because someone calls in sick. At one point, it was happening every Monday morning for a month.

WWE is evil and soulless, but they usually have their shit together when it comes to logistics. So I’m going to lean towards the NJT fucking this one up.

I don’t know anything about NJT and how they usually operate, but I feel I can safely assume they are awful. I do know how awful WWE is at everything, so I am going to posit that this is an everybody fucked up situation.

for sure. The NWSL had to have Portland - no Thorns no league. Youth soccer is huge here but so is college soccer and the Timbers going back 44 years. That helps create a culture that embraces soccer. The Blazers are also very much part of the community - the city was going nuts for days after the Lillard shot to beat

Good read, although there is a minor thing I disagree on the list of sexist things at the end. Namely the choice of stadiums. I just remember, and I’m already quite certain that I’m about to be corrected on this, that when I lived in Boston, they had moved the local women’s football team to play in one of the larger

Yes, we will miss out on some athletes, but the raw numbers say that soccer gets enough players to find elite athletes. Ultimately, if it’s one or the other — to me, coaching is a better fix than “more great athletes.”

The argument that “shifting more great athletes into soccer will fix everything” is what the irritant is. The gap of soccer play isn’t the number of athletes (or even the quality of athletes) playing the game. The US has probably 10x the number of soccer players of a Belgium, but we aren’t a better national team than

Or what lavelle is doing at 11, every single boy (even the “nonathletic ones”) in these European and South American countries are doing at 5... I really hate the “athlete” argument, our players (men) are not outmatched athletically, we are outmatched by skill and coaching and cultures where putting a soccer ball on

Right. They came in as prohibitive favorites, acted as unlikeable bullies and then backed it up. ‘My team should act like complete pricks when they are the favorites’ is a very NE Patriots brand of fandom that I don’t personally adore. There’s a lot of middle ground between that and ‘play the right way’ Cardinals

I’m 45, and a native New Yorker. No NBA or college team from the area has won a championship in my lifetime. Please stop telling me how we’re the center of the basketball universe. It’s embarrassing.

Sometimes it’s endearing

Now playing

Dieter Ruehle is AWESOME. (he’s also the LA Kings organist).

It’s not about what people can or cannot remember. It’s about what’s most intuitive. Is it more intuitive that water freezes at zero or that water freezes at 32?

Don’t enable this Matt. Is is not fair in the slightest. It is taking your subjective experiences and projecting that THERE COULD BE NO OTHER WAY.

Fair, but that’s mostly just weather for very temperate climates. Having grown up in a cold climate like Minnesota, it makes more sense to remember that 0 is the temperature for freezing instead of 32F.

Could you be more specific?

So salty GSW fans agree that 2015 deserves an asterisk with Love and Irving out especially since 2019 GSW replacements were so, so much better than Mozgov & Dellevadova & Perkins & Miller & Jones.
