Vanderbilt pulled out, so they replaced them with San Diego State (although I'm not sure Vanderbilt was ever "relevant"). And as for the Florida A&M game..... I'm not sure Florida A&M even knows why that happened.

When Ohio State scheduled Cal, before the 2002 season, they were coming off a 1-10 season, and had finished bottom of the PAC-10 two seasons in a row.
Stanford had just finished a 9-3 season when the Cal game was scheduled.
