Thought we were going to be talking Outer Wilds here and was disappointed. I played Outer Wilds on Kirk’s suggestion from last week’s splitscreen and it is INCREDIBLE. It’s too bad it’s press was mostly drowned out by E3 mania.

I can imagine he’s not, like, a personal favorite of yours but I still think you owe him a link to his stream or a twitch clip for context for the reader. Is this guy just doing a drdisrespect + no man’s sky type thing? Hard to really pass judgment as a reader without seeing his work.

But just how “insane” is their popularity? Is it the unhealthy type of insanity? A sort that should give us pause and consider the mental health of the people that have bought in the past? Do we need to be considered as well, that perhaps buying and contributing to their popularity might continue a trend of declining

Your analysis is ridiculous. The “incorrect” definition of criticism? And to your preference (which is all it is) that criticism be expressed in a longwinded manner; there is elegance in brevity.

Sure, but I love Kotaku! I can love it and also want it to improve. I think most creators would rather hear the criticism than just lose fans without knowing why.

I know it’s justifiable. They could write only about Twitch if they wanted to. I’m expressing the opinion that I’d rather read about something else, versus manufactured-by-Kotaku “headlines” about things Twitch streamers are saying. It’s just clickbait crap, and the fact that it works and brought us all here doesn’t

Can you really cite your own article about a topic as evidence that something is “making headlines”? Also, three articles about Doc in 24 hours? Find some video games to write about!

Seems like a lot of Kotaku articles recently about a popular streamer / youtuber / gamer content creator saying something dumb at some point in the hundreds of hours of content created. Then there’s the follow up article on the response. Seems like good ad money if you can keep up I guess, but I’m not sure what they

This seems pretty un-newsworthy even in the world of video game articles. “Popular streamer says he isn’t racist”. Ok. There’s not even an opinion about it given in the piece, just “this guy said this”. What’s the point of this article? If Doc’s opinion is reprehensible, call it out. If it’s not, why draw attention to

I am a pretty casual COD player. I’ve played probably 75% of the entries from the last 10 years, usually prestige between once and twice, enjoy the challenge of trying different playstyles to rank faster, then move on. This entry feels by far the slowest to level, and the least varied in terms of viable playstyles. I

I’m actually impressed at how well the servers held up in the first 24 hours of “going live” / 1.0. The game drew 2.8m people simultaneously at one point, more than the next 10 games on Steam combined (including CS:GO and Dota 2). The fact that the servers were merely laggy and inconsistent for a while is a victory

Amazing writing. The world doesn’t need more X/10, “there are more guns” types of reviews, but it needs more of this. Thanks.

Plenty of precedence in the FGC for using unintended techniques in competitive play, so long as A) they have been discovered by the community and B) they have not been specifically banned. I’m sure he wasn’t the only one, and I’m sure all of his opponents were aware of the exploit. On the tourney organizers or the

No Man’s Sky is fantastic, but you can tell how badly botching your pre-release buzz can kill you. It was pretty good at release and has just gotten better with free updates in the ensuing year. If you came to it today with no preconceptions, you’d be blown away.

Tim is my favorite games writer/talker/enthusiast. Kotaku is my favorite site. Videos about mario are my.... anyway you get it great stuff.

No, they mention a July 4th IB in the post as well, but the last IB will be August 1.

Pretty harsh tone, obviously the guy is going to lose to players at a GP, give him some credit for competing anyway.

I love Tim and I’m so glad he’s at Kotaku but I have questions:

So glad you gave up your dreams of making that dumb mobile game to get back to game criticism. #notsarcasm
