I truly wish they would release the original cut of it. I honestly believe it could be funny. Unfortunately, all that has been released to the public is a trailer and a single production still of Jackie Gleason as The Bandit.

To be fair, this version was a rushed rewrite of the script followed by a rushed filming of all of the scenes featuring the Snowman. The movie was originally titled Smokey IS the Bandit with Jackie Gleason playing both roles. The audience for a test screening didn't get it and/or hated it necessitating the movie's…
I approve of this. We were just discussing this steaming pile over on oppo last night. I think our general consensus was that it fell into the "so bad that it's good" category.
Great article. Welcome to Jalopnik. I look forward to your next piece and wish you continued success on the track.
Of course, it will be linked to another warning light on the dash. It will tell you when the mat has bunched up around/under the pedals. I'm surprised Toyota didn't add this feature a year or two ago.
As a longtime NASCAR fan believe me when I say he's been a joke for MUCH longer than that. He was a good Busch driver who became a mediocre Cup driver. He has the record for most number of Cup starts before finally winning a race. NASCAR issued him a then record penalty before his first race as an owner/driver. …
Should the sponsors decide to leave MWR they have a number of options whether or not they take their drivers with them. Roush/Fenway, Penske, Gibbs, Childress, Furniture Row, Earnhardt/Ganassi, and others could add an extra car for next year. Childress, Hendrick, Roush/Fenway and Stewart/Haas are all still looking…
If I had that kind of money, I would get one.
That's Cannonball Run 3 also known as Speed Zone. I was just going to post this.
Target should sponsor Bowyer for the last few races since his car will have so many bullseyes on it. Despite the fact he is still in the Chase, he will not win the championship. At least two or three times throughout the Chase, he will end up wrecked. Unlike MWR, the other teams will do it smart. There will be no…
The reason everybody glorifies Cannonball Run is Brock Yates, the man behind the real race, helped write it. This movie and Gumball Rally were rip-offs of his idea. He almost sued the makers of Gumball Rally but was advised against it. Source: Cannonball! World's Greatest Outlaw Road Race by Brock Yates
I would be surprised if the week ends without a new national Viper club being announced. Those chapters didn't just get mad and drop out. Someone has a plan. We just need to sit back and wait for the announcement. In the meantime we can continue watching VCA implode.
I believe so, but I'm not sure. I know the original production Viper engine was just an aluminum version of the truck motor. Dodge dropped the truck engine in 2008. Fairly early though the Viper team started doing their own development work to tailor the engine to the car. From everything that I have read, they…
Your last paragraph is exactly what I've been saying about this story over on Oppo.
After the way things played out I would not be surprised if Chevy put a bounty on all of the MWR cars.
They screwed over Stewart/Haas and Hendrick thus creating a 7 on 3 situation. All of the Stewart/Haas drivers can headhunt without worrying about being docked points or parked as can Gordon. Only Vickers can do this for MWR. There will be much destruction of MWR cars over the course of these final races.
NASCAR Cup had that for about 55 years, and it worked great. Then in 2003 Matt Kenseth walked off with the championship clenching it with a few races to go. The TV ratings were down for the final few races because of this. This meant of course they had to completely change how the championship was won.
Since the original Viper concept's entire purpose was to show off the Ram's V10. I thought that was a cool move on Dodge's part.
Still a douche. It doesn't matter how glorious you think your engine sounds your neighbors, and possibly the people across town, will hate you if you run straight pipes. If it's a street vehicle, put a muffler on it. Even good ones are not that expensive.
