It probably has to do with how far away the next galaxy is. I think The Original Series' Enterprise could do it, but it was going to take Voyager 75 years to get back from the other side of the Galaxy... and the next closest galaxy is even further away...
I think it's kind of ironic that your name can be pronounced like the cutest way for a 5-year-old to ask to play Monopoly.
I think it may need to maintain that speed for a period of time in order to escape the gravitational pull of the galaxy. So, in theory, it would still need some sort of thrust to maintain it's velocity. I'm no expert, though.
